Excel Macros: Distinguish Between Absolute & Relative Cell References
As you prepare to record a Macro in Microsoft Excel, it is important that you decide whether to use Absolute Cell References or to turn on Relative Cell Referencing. In most cases, Relative Cell References will be the best choice.
Absolute Cell References are "Literal." While recording your Macro with Absolute Cell Referencing turned on, each specific cell address that you move to is captured in the Macro. On the other hand, Relative Cell Referencing captures the "relative position" of your cell movements. This means that you have more freedom to run your Macro from different starting points.
