Intimate Archeology | Sedition Release | April 26, 2023
This series of digital editions continues the exploration of the collision of disparate matter, as Sanborn collaborates again with Sarah Cecilia Bukowski, a dynamic performer whose diverse background and body identity are both a blessing and a curse. Here they are using Lidar/photometric scanning to distort both space and time, producing 3D models (in real time), to suggest emotional or ethical states of being. Using the DNA trace transfer between artist and muse, movement becomes ephemeral sculpture, and a folding, unstuck in time, results.

Intimate Archeology is a selection from a series of 60 works, created by John Sanborn with Sarah Cecelia Bukowsky. The two are long time collaborators, so have a learned history of intentions, gestures and desires. The artists have created their own reality, aided by lidar and photometric scanning, to produce a choreography of distortion, rendered into 3D objects. The process evolved in real-time, prompted by written scenarios, and initiated the movement of Bukowsky’s body, in synchronicity with Sanborn’s camera.

Or as the poet says, “when you get to be my age, you are not compared to others. You are compared to your own history.”
