Rep. Norman Cheering On Bat Extinction
At a 2023 House Rules Committee hearing on whether to strip Endangered Species Act protection from northern long-eared bats and lesser prairie chickens, Rep. Ralph Norman of South Carolina cheered on bat extinction from white-nose syndrome.
More than 6 million bats (yes, six *million*) have died since 2006 because of white-nose syndrome. The epidemic is considered the worst wildlife disease outbreak in North American history — and so far, there's no cure.
