Cactus Ferruginous Pygmy Owl
The Center filed legal challenges against the Federal Highway Administration for failing to consider harms to threatened and endangered species, including the cactus ferruginous pygmy owl, from the proposed Interstate 11 in Arizona.
#Funfacts about the cute critter in this video: An adult pygmy owl weighs only about 70 grams, that's less than the avg. weight of an adult hamster. They grow to be about 6.5 inches tall, just a little bit longer than a dollar bill.
These are tiny, tiny owls. But don't let their size fool you: They are also fierce as hell, often taking down prey twice their size, like Gambel's quail. And they a huge role in maintaining the health of the #SonoranDesert. 🌵 🦉 💫
