Restoration of an old petrol lighter.
I got this petrol lighter for the occasion. What year of release I do not know, perhaps even the tsarist period. Of course, it does not work, the wheel is very rusty. The first step is to remove this wheel somehow. The peculiarity of this lighter is that it turned out to be aluminum. Therefore, you will have to work very carefully. I tried to Unscrew the body of the wheel, but it is so sour that it is impossible to do this. It remains only to cut off the wheel of the lighter. I put a thin cutting disc on the grinder and carefully cut off the top of the wheel, and then sawed it lengthwise. Now you can safely pull out the remains of the wheel axis. Everything turned out to be done carefully and nothing was broken. The flint together with the spring is sour and it is also impossible to pull them out. It remains only to drill. Using a thin drill and a screwdriver, I carefully drilled everything. Now to grind. First sandpaper on 1000 passed, then grain on 2000 sanded. Next, I used a sander to Polish the body of a gasoline lighter. At the same time, I used GOI paste. There were cutouts on the sides of the lighter, they were filled with aluminum, at first I thought it was solder. As if something was being inserted. Usually they put silver coins in these old lighters. I tried on all the coins, including those from the tsarist period, but not one of them was the right size. Well, rather than invent something and farm, I decided to leave everything like this. Can someone from subscribers tell me what should be there? I also polished the bronze cap of the petrol lighter, turning it on the bolt to make it more comfortable. To repair the lighter, I bought Zippo gasoline and a repair kit, which included a wick and flint. I left the old one in the lighter. I borrowed the new wheel from another lighter. I wanted to make a wheel out of a file, but then I changed my mind. The wheel did not fit a little, so I had to expand the seat slightly in the lighter. I made the wheel's axis out of a small nail. It remains now to collect everything. First the lighter spring, then the flint, and last the wheel. The wheel snapped into place. It remains to fill the lighter with Zippo gasoline. That's it, the lighter is ready! Perfectly lit and looks decent!
