Jellyfish, or medusoid generation (Greek μέδουσα), is a phase of the life cycle of cnidarians from the subphylum Medusozoa: hydroids (Hydrozoa), scyphozoa and box jellyfish (Cubozoa). The body of jellyfish largely consists of hydrated connective tissue - mesoglea - and is shaped like a bell or umbrella. This structure provides the ability to jet propulsion by contracting the muscles of the bell wall. The body of a jellyfish is on average 98% water. Even the largest jellyfish, whose linear dimensions exceed a meter, and the mass reaches several hundred kilograms, are not able to withstand sea currents, so they are considered part of the plankton.
