Khanom Beach... one of Thailand's hidden gems.
Khanom Beach, Thailand is one of our favorite beaches in the world. It's off the main tourist trail, which means you enjoy one of the most beautiful beaches in Thailand without all of the people. There's a few hostels for budget travelers and backpackers, as well as upscale resorts for those seeking luxury, but Ao Khanom is largely undeveloped. You may be wondering... if it's not touristy, what's there to do in Khanom, Thailand? Our favorite thing to do in Khanom is hop on a motorbike and cruise the road along the jungle-covered coast, discovering new places to eat and drink. Jam Bay and CC's Beach Bar are our two favorites and we'd highly recommend checking them out. Don't forget to take a swim at night to enjoy Khanom's famous magic sea plankton (aka bioluminescence). It's unreal! Whatever your budget, finding a few days to fit Khanom into your Thailand travel plans is a must. Less than an hour from Don Sak Pier, it's also an easy stop on your way to or from the more well-known Thai islands of Koh Phangan, Koh Samui, and Koh Tao. There are also minibuses leaving several times a day from Surat Thani, the main transport hub of the south, for just 200 baht ($6 USD). Trust us... if you want to experience a little slice of paradise in "real" Thailand, visit Ao Khanom! You won't regret it.
