Riding camels in sand dunes and riding horses across the Mongolian steppe! On days 2 and 3 of our tour in Mongolia, we got to cross these two things off our bucket list. In this vlog, we do another overnight homestay with a different Mongolian family and take a side adventure into the mountains!

While they look silly and harmless, Blake found out the hard way that camels can be mean! Brittany's really enjoyed biting him. The horses, on the other hand, were amazing. **We should note that we're always mindful of "animal tourism" and the possible ramifications that it can have. We made sure that these operations were humane in their treatment of the camels and horses involved. The horses, especially, seemed to be living great lives! They would give guided horseback tours of the Mongolian steppe for about an hour a day. For the remainder, they'd be allowed to go free and wander the steppe until they were rounded up again by their owners. It was an incredible experience and one of the best parts of our tour of Mongolia!

We don't usually book organized tours because we prefer to figure things out on our own, but in this instance we're glad we did. If you're curious about how to travel Mongolia, we'd highly recommend Golden Gobi Tours (no affiliation). They did a fantastic job of arranging everything... transport, an excellent guide, two homestays with nomadic Mongolian families, a visit to Terelj National Park, and of course both camel and horseback riding. The full 4-day/3-night tour of the Mongolian steppe was all-inclusive and only cost about $300 per person.
