We Stayed in a YURT on OLKHON ISLAND in LAKE BAIKAL!
Our time on Olkhon Island was made even more interesting with our decision to stay in a very unique yurt Brittany found on AirBnB and a tour of the north side of the island's incredible viewpoints. Off-roading in an old Russia van (also known as a "bread brick" or "bread loaf") made the scenic tour an adventure in itself. Unfortunately, a massive forest fire on the mainland caused smoke to completely engulf Olkhon Island and most of the viewpoints were nothing more than a hazy gray cloud.
If you're planning on taking the Trans-Siberian railway (or Trans-Mongolian railway), traveling Olkhon Island and Lake Baikal is an absolute must.
