In this episode we meet Fadella. Her perimenopause symptoms started in her mid-forties, when she began to experience crippling migraines. These intense painful headaches would happen every week and last for 2-3 days. During the migraines she would isolate herself in bed, in silence and in complete darkness until the migraine stopped. No pain medications would help.
Her worst migraine lasted 14 days. Her husband insisted on taking her to the hospital where, based on the pain she was experiencing, the doctors thought she had an aneurysm bursting in her brain. Thankfully, an MRI showed it was a migraine. Fadella, with the help of a neurologist, has finally found some help in the form of injections on her scalp and down her neck and shoulders every three months. This helps, and she only experiences manageable headaches one day per week now.
Despite her intense and debilitating perimenopause migraine pain, Fadella continues to enjoy her life as best she can. She urges women to educate themselves and to get the help they need so they can stop suffering.
