A ransomware attack on C-Edge Technologies, a provider of banking technology systems, has temporarily disrupted payment systems for nearly 300 small Indian local banks. The attack led to these banks being isolated from the national payment network to prevent further impact. The National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) confirmed this isolation in a public advisory, noting that customers of affected banks won't have access to payment systems during this time. These banks account for about 0.5% of India's payment system volume. NPCI is conducting an audit to prevent the spread of the attack. The Reserve Bank of India and Indian cyber authorities have previously warned banks about potential cyber threats. C-Edge Technologies and the Reserve Bank of India did not respond to requests for comment.
