On Jul. 24, New York City-based Gemini Trust Company, LLC, a cryptocurrency exchange with more than 900 employees and approximately $189 million in annual revenue, filed a notice of data breach with the Attorney General of California after discovering that a data security incident at a bank used by Gemini resulted in certain users’ confidential information being exposed. In this notice, Gemini explains that the incident resulted in an unauthorized party being able to access consumers’ sensitive information, which includes their names and bank account information. In Dec. 2022, hackers leaked personal information allegedly stolen from 5.7 million Gemini users.
