The foundation of all artforms start in imagination and then gets honed by observation. It plays an important role in giving life to the painting. So study your surroundings and try to paint them. Remember, Observation is the Key!
This video is when I was explaining the basics on how to paint trees. I try to break down the process to very simple steps - simplifying the process of visualizing shapes and using them to paint.
I explain the simple steps on painting trees in 2D to become comfortable with dealing with water and paint.
Then, we look at painting a tree with more details and color.
Finally, we look at different strokes and how to use them to paint different trees.
I have used a regular drawing book sheet to paint this picture. It’s ok to use regular paper if you are able to control the water and paint when painting. I used Camlin Artists paintbox with 18 shades and a normal synthetic round brush from a local art supply shop.
I encourage my students and all of you who want to start painting to just start without worrying about the materials. Use whatever you have at hand or available at your local art store.
As you paint more you will acquire the skills to paint better, it’s the journey that counts, so enjoy it as you progress!
