It's confession time...
I REALLY loathe wasting food.
The latest stats on food wastage shows that we are throwing away almost 50% of the food produced each year which is crazy and immoral given there are still people going hungry (and not just in 3rd world countries).
Given this stat and my feelings about it you may find what I'm sharing in today's Sweet Freedom Sunday a tad surprising.
I'm making the case for getting a jump start on cleaning out the food in your kitchen that is no longer serving you. I'm not just talking about sugar and processed food. Even the healthy stuff like beans, nuts and whole grains that may be well past their expiry date are on the hit list
Potential reasons to not throw out old food can be the fear of; impending natural disasters, wars, zombie apocalypses and starving children in Africa as we had drummed into us as kids to coax us to eat bad food.
There are however some really good reasons to get rid of food that's been around too long in your kitchen; food can lose its potency and can actually become oxidized and toxic (even if they look okay).
My Spring clean was hard initially but once I got going it felt liberating and I felt lighter going into the kitchen. I'd even go as far as to say it sparked some joy in me.
