I biked downhill from the mountain top. My goal was clear: reach the seaside as quickly as possible. But first, I had to navigate the descent to Ventimiglia.
Going down allowed me to push my Brompton to its limits, feeling the rush of speed as I coasted down long stretches of empty roads.
In Breil-sur-Roya, I paused, lured by the promise of a fresh French baguette. Yet, the reality of high prices and the absence of pastry sent me back on my way, empty-handed.
Approaching the Italian border once more, I battled strong headwinds. The challenge intensified as I traversed long narrow car tunnels, making each breath a struggle.
After three weeks away from the coast, Ventimiglia greeted me with open arms. I was back at the seaside.
Then the search for a place to camp was daunting. With options either fully booked or highly priced, and wild camping near the sea almost impossible, I settled on an official campsite. It was a practical choice, balancing economy with the need for rest.
Despite the poor reviews of many Italian campsites, I found one near the French border at Port de la Mare. There, I could finally take a break before continuing along the french coast.
