I woke up in Alessandria, a small city in the north-west of Italy. I was so glad I made it to the hotel yesterday, because there was a huge thunderstorm at night that would have soaked me and my bike if I had camped outside. The hotel was expensive, but they had a decent breakfast buffet. There were a lot of sweets, like croissants, cakes and cookies, but not much meat or cheese. I guess that's how Italians start their day.
I decided to stay in the hotel for most of the day and catch up on some work. I had some deadlines to meet.
Later, I went out to explore Alessandria a bit. I wanted to check out some bike shops and see if they had a bike stand and some padded shorts. My bike was getting wobbly and my butt was getting sore. But unfortunately, I couldn't find any bike shops that were open or had what I needed.
Instead, I walked around the city center and admired the architecture and the monuments. Alessandria is not a very touristy place, but it has some charm and history. I saw the Cathedral, the Town Hall and some nice squares and fountains. It was a pleasant stroll, but nothing too exciting.
I was also thinking about my next move, because the weather forecast was not looking good for the next few days. It was supposed to rain a lot and get colder. I didn't want to ride in those conditions, so I had to figure out a plan B. Maybe take a train or a bus to another city? Maybe stay in Alessandria longer? Maybe change my route altogether? I wasn't sure yet, but I had to decide soon.
I went back to the hotel and worked some more on my laptop. I was feeling nervous about what to do next, but also curious about what would happen. There was always something unexpected on this trip, and that's what made it fun and challenging. But you'll have to wait for the next episode to find out what I did. Stay tuned!

EuroVelo 8 (EV8), named the Mediterranean Route, is a 7,560 km long EuroVelo long-distance cycling route running from Cadiz, Spain to Athens, Greece, and then continuing to İzmir, Turkey and to the island of Cyprus. The route runs east-west across Europe mainly along or close to the Mediterranean coast, passing successively through 12 countries: Spain, France, Monaco, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania, Greece, Turkey, and Cyprus
Alexandria, Italy is a city in the Piedmont region, located at the confluence of the Tanaro and Bormida rivers. It was founded in 1168 by the towns of the Lombard League as a stronghold against the Holy Roman Emperor Frederick I. It became an important commercial and military center in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, and was the site of several battles during the wars of Italian independence. Today, it is a modern city with a rich cultural heritage, featuring baroque architecture, a cathedral, museums, and a cemetery. Alexandria is also known for its gastronomy, especially its wine and cuisine influenced by the nearby regions of Liguria and Lombardy.
