Librarians behind Books Unbanned weigh in on the nationwide book bans
The Library Foundation SD presents Libraries Lead the Way, a moderated panel discussion with library leaders from all 5 of the participating library systems in the nationwide Books Unbanned campaign. Moderated by Eric Stroshane of the American Library Association’s Office of Intellectual Freedom. Panelists include San Diego Public Library Director Misty Jones, Brooklyn Public Library Chief Librarian Nick Higgins, Seattle Public Library Chief Librarian Tom Fay, Los Angeles County Library Director Skye Patrick, and Boston Public Library President David Leonard.
In response to unprecedented efforts to ban and challenge books from the shelves of public libraries and schools, Books Unbanned, a national effort among public libraries, is one-way libraries are protecting the right to read. With five library systems now participating, Books Unbanned provides youth across the United States with digital access to frequently banned books and is an example of how, through the generosity of library supporters, libraries are standing up for intellectual freedom and social justice.
