Fourth Annual Shorties Presented by The Library Shop SD
And the winner of the Library Shop SD’s seventh annual Matchbook Story Contest is . . . .
Congratulations to local high school student Isabella Gutierrez, the youngest winner of San Diego's seventh annual Matchbook Story Contest! Isabella was recognized at the Library Shop SD's Third Annual Shorties Awards Gala for her winning story:
"I wrote my last note to her on the back of a Starburst wrapper. I even drew a heart next to my name.
Years later she told me she had it pinned to her wall all through high school, until the bright red had faded and the words lost their meaning."
The awards ceremony emceed by Library Shop SD Manager Scott Ehrig-Burgess included a mine performance of the 2022 Matchbook Story Contest Winner Cindy Chen's story and a spirited reading of this year's 10 finalists by Write Out Loud SD: Kurt Winbigler, Ravinder Sangha, Roxana Rad, Rebecca Pollard, Diana Manley, Judith Leggett, Anna Hallett, Timothy Calaway, and Claire Hsu Accomando.
The Shop received over 500 entries this year, including 87 team entries from Hazel Goes Cook Elementary. Thanks to Library Foundation SD Trustee Judith Wenker's triple-matching donations, the contest raised more than $5,000 for the Library Foundation SD!
