Vinnie has always had an interest in cars. As soon as he got his license, he was always on the road. He had heard automotive trades employers valued WelTec graduates because of their hands-on training and relevant skills, so when he saw that the automotive engineering programme was enrolling, he went for it.

At the time, Vinnie's income was small, but with the full cover Māori and Pasifika Trades Training (MPTT) scholarship, he was able to focus on his studies without having to work more or worry about money.

The family environment created by the MPTT team made it easy to seek support, and they regularly reached out to Vinnie to make sure he was doing okay.

Vinnie's tutor put forward his name for the Ford apprenticeship, and from there, all he had to do was accept the apprenticeship and follow through. Now he's an Automotive Engineer Apprentice in the Ford Service Department, diagnosing and repairing faults to help customers get their vehicles back on the road.
