How to Create a Roll up by Month Filter in an Excel Pivot Table
A viewer asked for my help to create a "Roll Up" Hierarchy by Month for Filtering a Pivot Table.
He like the new "Roll Up by Month" Filters in Excel 2007 - 2010 Tables but is frustrated that this does not exist "naturally" in his Pivot Table.
Before I show my viewer how to solve his problem, I take two minutes to demonstrate the power of the new "Natural Language" Date Filters that were introduced in Excel 2007.
To solve the problem for my viewer, I group the Date Field by Date, Month and Year. Now, when you filter the new "virtual" Month Field, you get the "roll up" by Month Filter that my viewer was searching for in a Pivot Table.
