Deems Taylor: Casanova - Ballet music
Richard Korn conducting the Hamburg Philharmonia Orchestra
---from Allegro LP 3150

At one time, American Composer Deems Taylor was a household name. His fame was renoun in commercial radio and in films (remember in Fantasia Taylor is the MC throughout the film). His own compositions were played on the radio and in concert halls during the 30's and 40's, but suddenly they disappeared from the radar. Very unfairly, his important position in American Classical Music history was eclipsed by the high-profile media exposure of the new generation: Copland, Barber, Bernstein... and their group. Thankfully old recordings may seem to gather dust, but they doso in the safety of closets, vaults and on the shelves of collectors for decades and can be resurrected.

This is an upload of a very rare one-of-a-kind recording of Taylor's Casanova Ballet Music. It was issued ca. 1950 and was among one of the first LP's issued showcasing many of the forgotten generation of American composers. This recording has a few ticks, and I apologize, but the rarity and beauty of the work demands its YouTube sharing.
