Ok, this one was a HARD one to play. Recording guitar videos in just ONE TAKE is always difficult. Playing Jeff Loomis in one take feels like hell... Kind of a fun hell you want to be in, but still a pain to play. There's more:
At the last moment before video production I decided to try and remove all the guitars from the original tune, and see how the recording ended up, so all guitars you can hear it's just me playing. Absolutely no Jeff Loomis in the background. It's the first time I try this and I should have done this track isolation before recording, not after. I thought the rhythm takes were better, as I listened to them with the original recording, but now all the little mistakes are way more obvious, specially the no-so-tight rhythm. Keith Merrow would cry if the listen to this... I'll reverse this process the next time.
Besides that, my mixing skills suck. I'll have to work on that, too.
I had a little thorn in my side since my last Conquering Dystopia video, as is the only one in this channel I didn't record in one take. It's still WYSIWYG, as each little solo was recorded in one take and then the exact video from the recording was composed in the final product, but I had to redeem myself and try to reach the next level.
Here's the result in all of it's GLORIOUS IMPERFECTION. This is an exercise in "guitar honesty", and here's how I played this:
