Welcome, my name is Phil, and in this video, I explain what the argument of the true anomaly of an orbit is.
The true anomaly is another concept in celestial mechanics used to describe the position of a celestial body along its orbit around another body. Unlike the mean anomaly, which assumes uniform motion along the orbit, the true anomaly takes into account the actual, non-uniform motion of the object in its elliptical orbit.
Specifically, the true anomaly is the angle between the pericenter (the closest point to the primary body) of the orbit, the focus of the elliptical orbit, and the current position of the object along its orbit, measured at the center of the ellipse.
In simpler terms, the true anomaly tells you where an object actually is along its orbit at any given time, taking into account the varying speed of the object as it orbits around the primary body.
