SuperVia - Rio de Janeiro
On November 1, 1998, SuperVia Concessionária de Transportes Ferroviários S./A. began operating urban trains in 11 important municipalities in the
metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro. That year, the Customer Service Center called SuperVia Fone was created; 31 stations were modernized;
the train-metro integration began; the first class of female train drivers was created; the Environmental Education program was launched, in partnership with the Environmental Association Defensores da Terra; and the electrification of the Gramacho – Saracuruna section was completed.
In 2003, SuperVia launched its website and established a training and customer service improvement program and received four awards (Revista Ferroviária / ANTP / Colunistas / Os Notáveis);
In 2005, the new train schedule was launched with increased seating capacity and reduced intervals, and the Environmental Sound System was inaugurated, present in 79 stations.
In 2007, the State Government delivered ten new trains with air conditioning and a computerized system, totaling 34 trains with this system in the fleet.
In 2009, the State Government delivered four refurbished train sets, totaling 38 air-conditioned trains, and signed a contract for the supply of 30 more new air-conditioned trains, to be delivered starting at the end of 2011.
SuperVia is a company that operates the urban train service in the metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro, Duque de Caxias, Nova Iguaçu, Nilópolis, Mesquita,
Queimados, São João de Meriti, Belford Roxo, Japeri, Magé, Paracambi and Guapimirim, through a 270 km rail network divided into five branches,
three extensions and 102 stations.
