a) Gander -- noun, a male goose
b) Gloaming - noun, twilight; dusk
We've just brought a small-holding, and a fair bit of my time has been taken up with rescuing the productive potential of the place. One of the early steps we took was buying a gaggle of geese. Geese are NOT benevolent, or sensible. But they are fascinating.
Geese very much adhere to a traditional family unit, and Dad takes the family walking all, except when the family is resting, and he's keeping an eye on things to make sure everything's safe. Geese theoretically sleep at night, but generally they prefer to not go to bed and instead of a bit of a party.
The gander in this little ditty is going for a bit of a gander (Australian slang for "look") when he ought to be going to bed. The use of canonic imitation at very short intervals mimics the way the geese follow each other around, at times so closely it can be hard to tell where one goose ends and the next starts, especially at a distance.
The titular gander is called George, and he features with his family at the beginning of the video.
