Elegy - an original piece for piano
Digging through my sketchbook I found a couple of nice ideas that with a little work could work together in the same piece. The mood of the ideas matched my current mood - it's been a bit of a sad time - and this Elegy took shape pretty quickly. I've been meaning to experiment with chromatic mediants for emotive effect, and this is one of the most Romantic pieces I've written to date. The piece uses elements of Bach and Chopin, two composers that were favourites of my father, who passed away suddenly a week or so ago.
