Approaching Cold Front with 50+mph Winds.
Cold front approaches Eastern North Carolina. 1.9.23 at 4:35pm. Tornado watch.
50mph wind gusts, maybe a little higher. Apologies for the shaky footage, I was getting knocked around a little (I have back injuries so my balance isn't great and the ground is wet and slippery). At one point, I was literally looking for a tornado so I tightened my grip on the phone, but I wasn't looking at it, just the skies. Sorry for that, but safety first.
As it turns out, 10 minutes after this footage was shot, a tornado touched down several miles to my ESE headed directly towards me. The storm fizzled out as it passed. I didn't see the tornado, but I could hear it as it dissipated. It's an unmistakable sound. I was filming, but there's not much to look at in that footage. More of the same with rain. Maybe I'll upload it?
I recommend anyone in the path of this front / line of severe weather to stay indoors. Leave the footage to storm chasers & spotters (which I have been for 3 decades).
