As we added country number 8 to our visiting list, we explored the Christmas markets in Bavaria, Germany.
We met with old and new friends and sampled the local street food and drink as well as the international from several continents at the Sisters Cities market, the one place where we visited continents and countries without borders sampling their traditional goodies.
We learned that Christmas presents are brought by Christkind (Christ child) in many countries and the well known old Santa was actually introduced in the late 1990s by the famous soft drink ad.
The Christmas tree as we know it today also originated from Bavaria, through Prince Albert, who wished to keep his family traditions alive when he moved in with Queen Victoria.
The true meaning of comunity survives in the smaller towns of Bavaria, with locals gathering in the market centre to share a drink, something to eat and catch up.

Fun fact: the other man toasting with me is the person who introduced me and Anca 11 years ago :)
