In Memory: The Real-Life Ezzy
To those who read Peter & Company, you might already know that the character of Ezzy - Peter's sister - is actually based on a real-life cat. Ezzy was the first cat I ever adopted, back in 1998. She was only a few weeks old and could fit in the palm of my hand. When I went off to SCAD, my mom took her in and she had lived there ever since. This video was taken last year, while Whitney and I were watching my mom's cats while she was away.
At 2:27 am on Tuesday, May 20th 2014, Ezzy passed away at the age of 16. She died in my mother's arms, only a few hours after we had left, having spent the day there to visit with her.
Everytime I draw Ezzy (short for Esmerelda), I will remember this cute little calico munchkin kitten that was her inspiration. I will maintain her memory through the life of her cartoon counterpart.
And I will miss her. So, so much.
