Does your pantry or closet desperately need better storage? In this video, I show you how to install ClosetMaid metal wire shelving for under $60. It’s a much cheaper and faster alternative to custom wood shelving, and I’ll show you exactly how to cut and anchor them for a professional, solid finish.

TIMESTAMPS: 00:00 - Why choose metal wire shelving over wood? 00:33 - Measuring your space: The quarter-inch clearance rule 01:03 - Essential accessories: Rod end caps and wall anchors 01:40 - Tool Hack: How I got a 30" bolt cutter for less than a 24" 02:10 - How to mark and cut wire shelving with bolt cutters 03:08 - Planning your layout: Spacing shelves for maximum storage 03:48 - Leveling your lines: The secret to a straight shelf 04:20 - Installing wall brackets and pre-drilling holes 05:10 - Final Assembly: Snapping the shelves into the anchors 05:35 - The Finished Result: 4 shelves installed and solid!

ABOUT THIS PROJECT: I used an 8-foot section of ClosetMaid shelving and cut it down to fit my 31-inch pantry. By doing it myself, I saved hundreds compared to a custom closet company. One of the most important steps is using the rod end caps (01:03) to prevent the sharp cut metal from snagging your clothes or food packaging.

Plastic Rod End Caps
Level & Measuring Tape
Hammer & Drill

PRO-TIP FROM THE VIDEO: When measuring, don't cut the shelf exactly to the width of your wall. Cut it about 1/2 inch shorter (00:48) to allow room for the side brackets and end caps. This makes the installation "snug" without being a struggle!
