Good mooooooooood!
We start our second day in Kuwait on a high note – with a visit to the Scientific Center 🧪🌍 This huge educational and entertainment complex combines a giant aquarium, an IMAX theater, and the Discovery Science Center. We spend a few wonderful hours there, as the place is incredibly impressive and demonstrates how much Kuwait invests in education, science, and development.
The next day, we head to the Grand Mosque – Kuwait's main mosque 🕌 We receive an incredibly warm welcome, learn about the mosque's rules, and admire its monumental interior.
We continue through the modern financial center, admiring futuristic, expensive, and monumental buildings. The contrast between tradition and modernity in this country is palpable. We arrive at Safa Square, admire the Liberation Tower from afar, and then head into the heart of local life – the Mubarakiya Souq. This is where Kuwait truly comes alive – the colors, scents, traditional costumes, spices, food, gold, fabrics, and goods from all over the world.
Along the way, we discover many interesting facts and observations about Islam, local customs, and everyday life. We briefly visit the port and fish market, and then we head deeper into the country!
Curving along the multi-level, serpentine roads, we finally come across one of the largest bridges in the world 🌉. It's impressive… but does it lead anywhere?! On the other side, complete emptiness awaits us – desert, sand covering the asphalt, camels lining the road, shops resembling vans parked on the roadside, and absolute silence. The atmosphere is like something from another planet.
We reach a pink mosque in the middle of nowhere, and as we near the border with Iran, I tell them about the region's tragic history, the conflicts, and the fates of the people that shaped today's Middle East.
