This time, we're changing the way we explore Qatar. We're renting a car to more efficiently reach places outside the very center of Doha. And it quickly turns out that Qatar can surprise us… sometimes more than I expected.
Our first stop is the Katara Cultural Village. It's a vast space created with Qatari culture, art, and tradition in mind. On the one hand, everything here is meticulously crafted: the architecture, squares, theaters, and galleries. On the other, however, there's a strange feeling… as if we were walking through a perfect model. Beautiful, clean, and artificial. Or maybe that's just me?
A moment later, we stumble upon something even more surprising – Venice in Qatar!
On the artificial island of The Pearl, a district has been created that looks as if it's been transported straight from Italy. Canals, bridges, colorful townhouses, and gondolas. Everything resembles a miniature Venice, but…
The question arises again: who was this actually created for? The place is impressive, but at the same time, it feels a bit surreal.
We continue our walk, admiring luxurious marinas, apartment buildings, and more architectural designs that showcase the scale of this country's wealth. This island is one of those places where you can truly see how huge sums of money can transform a desert landscape.
At the end of the day, we head to Lusail, a futuristic city built practically from scratch. We get a close-up look at the impressive Katara Towers, which have become one of the symbols of modern Qatar, as well as the nearby port and the luxurious developments in this part of the city. This is opulence on a scale that's hard to compare to anywhere else in Europe.
