After traveling through Bahrain and Kuwait, it's time for another Persian Gulf country, and from the very first moment, it's clear that Qatar and its capital (Doha) operate under slightly different rules. After landing, we set out to explore the city. We discover what life is like in one of the world's wealthiest countries, how it differs from its neighbors, and whether it's really as futuristic as the tourist brochures suggest.
We stroll around the city, sampling local flavors, observing the daily lives of locals, and slowly becoming accustomed to the culture of this place. Right from the start, we encounter surprises and interesting facts that are difficult to understand without seeing them firsthand.
Along the way, we come across one of the city's unusual buildings – a snail-shaped mosque, which looks completely different from most temples in the region. It's one of those places that demonstrates the diversity of architecture in the Islamic world.
A visit to Doha's most important souk – Souq Waqif – is a must. Narrow streets, the aroma of spices, traditional costumes, and dozens of small shops create an atmosphere that transports you to a completely different world. It's one of the best places to experience authentic Qatari culture.
One of the most unique parts of the souk is the falcon souk 🦅 This is a place where you can see up close the birds, which have been an important symbol of Arab tradition for hundreds of years. I share a bit about falconry in the Gulf countries and why these birds can cost a fortune.
Along the way, I also share practical tips, first observations about the culture, customs, and differences between Qatar, Bahrain, and Kuwait. But this is just the beginning of discovering Qatar...
