Pride of the Philippines
It takes just the right amount of breeze to unfurl to its fullest glory the flag atop the tallest flagpole in the Philippines.
Standing at 150 feet, the pole marks the spot in front of the Rizal Monument where, at 9:15am July 4, 1946, the full independence of the Republic of the Philippines was proclaimed as authorized by the United States President Harry S. Truman.
Driving along Roxas Boulevard, we were fortunate to catch this immense banner at full stream.
A unique feature of this flag is its ability to indicate a state of war if it is displayed with the red side on top. Let's hope it never comes to that, although, as the national anthem reminds us, "Land dear and holy, cradle of noble heroes, ne'er shall invaders trample thy sacred shore. Thy banner, dear to all our hearts, its sun and stars alight, O never shall its shining field be dimmed by tyrant's might".
