Profoundly Catholic Filipinos are devoted to Santo Niño (the Holy Child), representing Jesus as a small boy typically dressed as a king. Santo Niño is part of every parish’s life, and in some places is honoured by a major feast of the year. His image is found in almost every Filipino home, because Filipinos believe that the Santo Niño is their protector and has the power to grant and answer their prayers.
His birthday falls on the third Sunday of January, and is customarily celebrated by a procession, accompanied by drummers, around each barrio.
