First Hang Gliding Competition in Vancouver, 1977
Two fifty foot reels of Super 8 film footage by Jim Bernath of Burnaby. Originally I thought this was 1979, the Third Annual Grouse Mountain Invitational Hang Gliding Championship, but it turns out it was 2 years earlier in 1977. I lifted a paper label on the box to reveal the 1977 date, which corresponds to the year of the first competition. The film starts with footage that appears to be going down the valley, but don’t be misled. The Hang Gliding Championship took place off Grouse Mountain, Sept 2-5, 1977. We may be overlooking Burnaby here, not Vancouver, hard to tell with the limited view.
