You're probably thinking, "Matt, the weekend was awesome, but it was too short. Similarly, your vacation this summer or even last night's sleep were probably too short. But I bet you've never thought that that brief or memorandum that you wrote was too short.
However, we can make our legal writing more persuasive by making it shorter. And to do that, let's meticulously edit everything we write. That brief, that memorandum - read it over again, and read it over again to cut out all those phrases and words that are unnecessary. You will know you'll be done editing when you can read your legal document and think "This is like my Labor Day Weekend, summer vacation, or last night's sleep - it's too short. Thanks for watching.
