MacDowell - Sea Pieces, Op. 55: V. Song (Aronas Ruminas)
Lithuanian pianist Aronas Ruminas performs the "Song" from Sea Pieces, Op. 55 by Edward MacDowell. The recording was made live during the Klaipėda Piano Masters "88 Colors of the Sea" project at the Palanga Kurhaus. It included 25 piano miniatures based on the subject of the sea.
A master at composing miniatures, American composer Edward MacDowell's Sea Pieces are colorful late-intermediate and early-advanced piano works. The eight pieces with descriptive titles explore a wide dynamic range and span the entire range of the keyboard. His "Song" may be interpreted as sailor's song, featuring a pre-dominant masculine character.
Aronas Ruminas (2010) was the youngest participant in the history of KPM at the age of 13. He has won prizes at 14 national and international competitions, including the 1st prize at the "World Art Games" in Spain, the 1st prize at the “Music without Limits” competition in Druskininkai, and the Grand Prix at the "Olimpo musicale" competition in Kaunas. He made his debut with the Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra at the age of 12. He currently studies with Valdone Kučinskienė at the Klaipėda Eduardas Balsys arts gymnasium.
