New Abarth 500e First Drive: A Proper Hot Hatch For PETROLHEADS?
Hello guys, and welcome back to Car Obsession. Anyone who knows me even vaguely well will know I’m a lover of the hot hatchback but in recent years this species has become more endangered as manufacturers focus more on EV motoring. Speaking of which, Abarth has released the new 500e but the question is, can it do enough to win over an old school petrolhead?
Powered by a 42kWh battery, the Abarth 500e is able to produce 155hp along with 235Nm of torque. 0-63 is done with in 7.0 seconds, which is about what you would have got from the last, petrol variant of the hot 500. In regard to range, it offers 157 miles on a combined run, but if your driving is going to be limited to city/town driving then the range rises to 209 miles.
The range isn’t fantastic, which may put you off, and it’s not what you’d call cheap, either. There are two trim levels available, 500e, which starts from £34,195 and Truism, which starts from £38,195.
The base mode offers features including 17” alloys, matt grey door mirror caps, sports seats, 10.25” touchscreen, 7” digital display, LED lights, climate control, reversing camera, keyless go, sound generator, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, JBL sound system, traffic sign recognition , autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, seed limiter and three driving modes, Turismo, Scorpion Street and Scorpion Track.
The range-topping Turismo adds to this with 18” diamond cut alloys, alcantara interior, central armrest, fixed glass roof, 360 degree parking sensors, keyless entry and start, heated front seats, automatic high beam, blind spot monitoring, and wireless phone charging pad.
