My FIRST Time Driving A Volkswagen Golf R: Volkswagen Golf R 20 Years Edition
Hello guys, and welcome back to Car Obsession. As many of you may know, I'm a MASSIVE fan of hot hatches but I have a secret...I have never driven a Volkswagen Golf R, until now...
This is not any Golf R, this is the 20 Years edition, which as you guessed, celebrates 20 years of the Golf R, ranging all the way back to the 3.2 litre V6 Mk4 Golf R32. Of course, times have changed since then and the engine downsized to a 2.0-litre four-pot back with the Mk6.
Underneath this version is the iconic EA888 engine, which has been used in many VAG cars, but in this application offers 333hp - 13 more than the standard car. Torque remains the same at 420Nm, but because of the extra power, this special edition will do 62mph in 4.6 seconds, .1 seconds faster than the standard Golf R.
Like the standard car, the 20 Years Edition feeds power to all four wheels via a 7-speed DSG - no manuals to be found here. As standard on the 20 Years Edition, you get the Performance Pack, which on a standard Golf R would set you back £2,000.
This includes two extra driving modes; 'Drift' and 'Special', 19" alloys, a larger rear spoiler and a top speed which is increased to 168mph. On top of that you get some 20 badges on the C pillars, and if you so desire, blue alloys. Given the fact this is about £5,000 more than the standard car, is it worth it?
