Some of you have even spent thousands of dollars on professional L-series lenses with unrivaled optical quality, fast electro-focusing EF prime lenses, zoom lenses, fisheye lenses. But over the past few years, more and more attractive EOS R mirrorless cameras have been released with enticing photo / video capabilities, such as the Canon EOS R6, Canon EOS R5, and the Canon EOS R3 is already known to be in development. You'd love to keep up with the times and ditch the mirror system, but the price of new RF RF lenses is stopping you, and you don't see the point in selling EF lenses because they are reliable. But there is a way out!

I'm sure you have some favorite lenses in your collection that have seen a lot and have not let you down before. Leave them! True, you need a little assistant - the Canon EF-EOS R mount adapter.

Canon has released three adapter options: the first is the basic one, which will be discussed today. The second is additionally equipped with a control ring. It can be programmed through the camera menu to adjust various parameters such as light sensitivity, aperture, shutter speed, exposure compensation.
The third adapter with a plug-in filter has several modifications:
V-ND adapter: Variable ND filter
This filter is designed to control exposure in videos and create various artistic effects when taking long exposure photography.
C-PL adapter: circular polarizing filter
This filter increases brightness, contrast and saturation, and also corrects unwanted highlights.
Third party adapters:
There are third party adapters that differ slightly in cost. The first is Viltrox ef-eos r and the second is Commlite ef-eos r. They are worth mentioning in order to get a complete picture, but I do not plan to use them yet. And if any of you already have experience of using, share your opinion in the comments. Canon EF-EOS R adapter. What lenses does it work with?
The original adapter comes in a small cardboard box. Inside there is an instruction, a warranty card.
The technical characteristics indicate the weight of 110 g. It is practically not felt. It is intuitively clear which side to put it on the camera and which side to connect the EF series lenses (the mark is marked with a red circle) and the EF-S series lens (white square). When using EF-S lenses, the focal length of the lens does not match, it is approximately 1.6 times longer than the indicated one. I think you might find it helpful to have a look at the list of lenses that are compatible with EOS R cameras. And it should be noted that EF-M and CN-E (Cine EF) lenses cannot be used with this adapter.
EF lenses adapt to your EOS R system thanks to gold-plated contacts on each side. They allow the camera electronics to focus the lens and control the aperture using the electric drives built into the lens. If you do not want to have interruptions in work, take care of them. Try not to scratch, dirty or touch them. Remember to put on the protective caps when you disconnect the adapter. On the side of the camera there is a rubberized ring, where the RF mount is, it serves for dust and moisture protection. If something happens to it over time, you can always go to a Canon Service Center to have it replaced.
On the body there is a lever for detaching the lens - like a small lock.
