На здоровье vs за здоровье | What is the difference? | Russian drinking toasts
За здоро́вье [za zdarovye] - to health.
На здоро́вье [na zdarovye] - you’re welcome.
If you want to wish a person future health and ask others to raise their glasses and join in a drink, in Russian you have to use the Accusative case with the preposition «за»:
За ваше/твоё здоровье! (To your health!)
За любовь! (To love!)
За удачу! (To success!)
За встречу! (To our meeting!)
These are typical Russian toasts. You can say just «За твоё здоровье!» or you can also use the next phrases:
Давайте выпьем за… (Let's drink to…)
Давайте поднимем бокалы за… (Let's raise our glasses to…)
Предлагаю тост за… (I propose a toast to)
And you should use the answer «На здоровье!» when someone thanks you for a treat.
