Hi, I'm OliverAge24 and this is a video about whether playing games makes you better at making them.
I started this Game Dev channel to combine my love of YouTube, and making + marketing video games. If you found it useful and want to see more, please subscribe and turn on notifications, thank you!

I occasionally see posts on Reddit and Facebook where aspiring developers will ask a question along the lines of "I've never played video games before, but I want to start making them, will that hold me back?". In this video, I sum up both sides of the argument and give my take on it.
TL;DW - I believe that if you're going to work on games regardless, you'll be better at doing so if you've played video games or consider yourself a gamer. I also believe that just playing video games alone doesn't necessarily mean you'd be good at making them.
