In this video, I'm going to share with you 10 methods I've found really useful for generating game ideas. Hopefully, if you're stuck, one of these will help you come up with a new idea to work on. And so...
How to come up with a game idea, when you are stuck:
1. Look at genres and games that already exist, new and old, and try to think of what you could change.
2. List the genres you enjoy playing the most and the ones you are capable of making. See if any overlap.
3. Take part in GameJams.
4. Look for inspiration in GameDev communities.
5. Take a look at board games and card games.
6. Look outside of games altogether. Art, music, TV, Comics, Books, and Films, can all be great sources of inspiration.
7. Live Stream your game development, and take audience suggestions.
8. Try to imagine what the perfect game for a specific person would be.
9. Try to think of a character, story, or location first, and not think about mechanics until afterwards.
10. If all else fails, start cloning something. Hopefully, before you finish it, you'll have some ideas on how to alter it and make it your own.
