Phyllis Njeri Gitahi | I&M Foundation Scholarship Beneficiary
When a primary school teacher encouraged Phyllis Njeri Gitahi, a native of Nakuru, to apply for a scholarship sponsored by the I&M Foundation, it transformed the 14-year-old's life forever. This educational grant, implemented in collaboration with the Palmhouse Foundation, supports high school education for bright students from financially challenged families. In Njeri's situation, her mother's illness prevented her from contributing financially to the household and with five children of school-going age, the financial pressure on her father became overwhelming.
Speaking to us, Njeri, who shares a close bond with her father, became emotional as she expressed how proud and empowered she felt to relieve him of the burden of her education. She extended her gratitude to her teacher, Ms. Emma, and urged anyone in a position of influence to take a genuine interest in those under their care, emphasising that the transformative impact of such actions can be truly life-changing.
