Within the arctic of far western Alaska there are petrified remains of an ancient forest. These fossils were ejected upwards as part of a tremendous volcanic explosion, the same one which formed a 5-mile-wide maar crater in the ground. Yet, these fossils did not originate tens of millions of years ago, but rather during a period a mere 130,000 years ago when the Seward Peninsula of Alaska was densely forested. This video will explain how these fossils came to be, and how they relate to Milankovitch Cycles.
