In New Zealand, the infamous White Island volcano has erupted anew, with a fairly persistent plume of ashes now being emitted for the fifth straight day. And yet, while this current eruption has been fairly small, there now appears to be shallow magma present, likely at depths of less than 600 meters. If this magma reaches the surface, it is likely to cause White Island's eruption to become at least 1 order of magnitude more explosive.
