Tracking Any Subject for Focusing - EOS R5 Tip 84
Tracking a person, animal, or vehicle on the EOS R5 is easy. As long as you have the camera set to detect that subject, it will detect and track any of those things that it sees in the image automatically.
But what if you want to track something arbitrary? Like say a red label on a box, or a yellow ball?
Well the camera can do it, but it doesn't happen automatically. Instead you have to tell the camera to track that subject.
How do we do this?
The easy answer is by touching it on the LCD. If the camera can detect something it can track, then it will box it in with the double white corners indicating that it's tracking it.
But what if you're not using the LCD? What if you want to use the EVF instead?
In this case, there are a couple of options. One is touch and drag AF. The other, at least when shooting with servo focusing in photo mode, is to use the initial AF point.
