🔻 TRANSCRIPT

Hi, this is Julie and Buddy. This is part 2 of 2 of “Top 5 Questions Before Getting a Dog”. If you missed part 1, then please click here or the link in the description. In part 1 we already explored things like what’s driving you, the resource requirements, and whether you should get a puppy or an adult dog. In this 2nd part, we’ll cover different types of dogs and explore being open to learning new things. Let’s go …

At this point, I'm ready for the next question, which is What type of dog should I get, and from where? Why not just anyone, or what about the latest “it” dog? Why not follow my dream of having a Husky in my little studio while I’m away all day long? Without going too deep in this very interesting topic, by the way, we know that we humans have been breeding dogs for different purposes, like work or beauty. From the genes come multiple profiles and aptitudes. That’s why some seem designed to learn incredible tricks or run long distances, feature thinner or thicker coats, prefer middle or lower temperatures, and so on. If I’m very sportive, loving outdoor activities, interested in getting into challenging trainings with a dog who will enjoy it as much as I do, or if I’m more of the stay-at-home type but still enjoy long simple walks, then some dogs will fit better that others. The best advice I should follow is to do some research, learn about the different brands (different breeds), and find the best possible match for my lifestyle. Now, about cross-breeds or pure-breeds, 1st hand or 2nd, or 3rd hand, they are all 1st class dogs as soon as they get the care and guidance they deserve!

Attached to the question of what type of dog should I get, is from where should I get him or her? Ads? Web ads? Breeder? Neighbor? Shelter? Well this is a subject in itself I would like to suggest you watch my video called From where should I get my dog?

And finally, my last question is Am I open to learning new things? Whether this is my first dog, or I’ve had dogs before, I would definitely speak with a certified dog behaviorist about learning the modern, positive reinforcement training methods for me to apply. Besides the technique, it’s the comprehension of the learning system that exists in all of us that is the revolution. It comes directly from science, meaning it’s proven to be effective with all species. From a goldfish to the wildest animals in captivity, it allows for great cooperation, whether it’s to go through an agility course or to get medical care! And, all of it with motivation and confidence. For sure, the knowledge has evolved over many years, thanks to the many researchers, so we now are able to use our modern, human intelligence rather than the old methods based on myths and force.

I would like to leave you with this; if after having done all the homework, and having followed all the points in this video, and having made your choice, you find yourself going to adopt your newest family member, then be sure to remain open because it might just be the dog that chooses you.

I wish you all the best of a magical life together! Thank you for watching and please subscribe to help me deliver more of this content for you.
