Ex-Lover’s Rage Turns Deadly
When 47-year-old mother-of-three Clair Ablewhite suddenly went radio silent in February of 2022, a concerned friend contacted her father, who went to check on her at her home in the English village of Colston Bassett in Nottinghamshire. He found his daughter unresponsive with stab wounds to the neck and chest and immediately began trying to resuscitate her. Ablewhite died from her injuries, and investigators traced the crime to her recent ex-lover, 26-year-old John Jessop. The former couple had met through a dating app about six months earlier and had broken up less than a week before Ablewhite’s mvrder due to her concerns over their 21-year age difference. Jessop was connected to the mvrder through surveillance footage captured by a neighbor’s security camera. Other evidence revealed that he had ridden his bicycle 17 miles from his home in Newark to the crime scene, stopping to buy a pastry along the way. According to prosecutors, he committed the horrific act of violence because he couldn’t accept that his relationship with the victim was over. After mvrdering Ablewhite, Jessop rode his bike back to Newark and went out drinking with friends. He reportedly showed no remorse throughout the investigation and refused to speak with detectives. Jessop has never apologized for his actions, even after being found guilty of Ablewhite’s mvrder and sentenced to life with a minimum of 17 years and eight months.
